FAQs... How do I pronounce Escrimis? The final letter is pronounced by the locals, but not by Parisians. What's the weather like? The weather is great. In summer its hot, but not as unbearably hot as it can be on the Côte d'Azur or in the Lubéron. The statistics are as follows:
Today's weather can be found here. Is the swimming pool heated? The sun keeps the pool nicely warm in the high season, but the heating of the pool is boosted in the early and late summer periods. Use of the pool covers at night keeps the temperature up and helps to save the planet! Is central heating included? Central heating is included during the winter months. The walls are thick and with shutters closed at night it retains the heat well. It is far cosier than many an English country house in Winter ;you will not need thermals, but don’t forget your jumpers! This last winter we spent the middle of the days outside in shirtsleeves, but it was cold at night. Is there air conditioning? No, but the house has very thick walls and closing the shutters and windows during the day will keep the house at a very comfortable temperature. Do I need to bring sheets and towels? No, good quality bed linen is provided and beds are made up before you arrive and daily except Sundays. We also provide bath and hand towels and towels for use by the swimming pool. Tea towels, dishcloth etc are supplied for use in the kitchen. All linen is changed weekly. We have a baby; do you have a cot / highchair? We have two travelling cots that can be put up in any of the four large bedrooms. Please let us know in advance if you require a cot and bring your own sleeping bag, sheets to suit your baby. There are also two good solid high chairs with harnesses. Is there someone who could cook for us? Yes. We can arrange for a full time of part time chef and the housekeeper can prepare vegetables and salads. See under Staff for details. Do I need to speak French? As always when abroad it helps to have a few words of the language. You will need to phone Rose, the housekeeper, who lives off-site, to let her know you are on your way and what time you will arrive. Whilst she speaks no English, a smile and a gesture will go along way (except on the phone). There are dictionaries and other language books in the library, if necessary. Are the pool and garden fenced? There is a small walled garden on the North side of the house but otherwise the land is open for miles around, but the house is secluded at the end of a 1km private road, surrounded its own land some of which is farmed and includes some vines. The pool is fenced and alarmed to current safety requirements, but it is your responsibility to ensure that the gate is locked when you are not using it. If you have small children you will, of course, need to keep an eye on them at all times. Is there access to wireless broadband? Yes. We have just managed, finally, to have broadband with a 2MB download speed installed via a microwave connection. There is a wireless connection in the kitchen and on the south terrace, but because of the thick stone walls this does not extend to the rest of the house, however, a computer can be hard wired to the LAN in any room. The connection is free to tenants. Where's the nearest tennis court? The nearest tennis club (with 6 clay and hard courts and one indoor clay court) is just 8km away in Condom. Escrimis-la-Chapelle has membership for 4 players at any one time - you just turn up with your rackets and balls and play on any available court - and coaching is also available; ask us for details. May we bring our dog? Pets are not allowed at Escrimis-la-Chapelle. Is smoking allowed? For safety and other reasons we cannot permit smoking in the house. If you smoke in the garden or by the pool, please dispose of your butts in the bins (making sure they are out) and not in the garden. Please also be very careful about fire outside in the summer months.
